I’ve thought about this a lot. How they work, or would work, but I haven’t come to any solid satisfying conclusions, just some random theories and ideas that don’t completely hold together. I don’t know how exactly the technology would work, but I’m thinking alone the lines of decomposing DNA into a system of code. Maybe a microchip is placed into the Pokemon when it’s captured, sort of like the ones they put into pets for when they run away? This microchip controls the transporting of DNA and data on the Pokemon… And also prevents other trainers from catching that Pokemon because it’s chip is linked to a different pokeball. And when the Pokemon is released the chip is either removed somehow or deactivated? The PC storage system would probably work on a similar way, using the microchip for DNA and data transfer to the bigger system.
